Ian Melven leads the Product Security team at New Relic. Previously, he has worked in security related roles at Mozilla, Adobe, McAfee and @stake. He supports West Ham United.
He has done a fair few things in his career: programming, software design, security assessments of various kinds, mobile stuff, reverse engineering, conducted client engagements, given presentations, written technical documents. He considers himself a generalist when it comes to programming and a specialist in practical software security.
His current interests are offensive security, mobile (particularly Android) and distributed systems. He likes to do deep dives into pieces of technology to try to understand them and then apply his knowledge and experience of security to try to break them.
As far as goals go, he only has one : "Throughout my life, advance daily, becoming more skillful than yesterday, more skillful than today. This is never-ending."
