Welcome to the OWASP Washington VA Local Chapter

Welcome to the local Washington VA chapter homepage. The chapter leader is Stan Wisseman

Participation

OWASP chapter meetings are free and open to anyone interested in application security. We encourage members to give presentations on specific topics and to contribute to the local chapter by sharing their knowledge with others. Prior to participating with OWASP please review the Chapter Rules.

To join the chapter mailing list, please visit our mailing list homepage. The list is used to discuss the meetings and to arrange meeting locations. You can also review the email archives to see what folks have been talking about. Please check the mailing list before coming to a meeting to confirm the location and time and to catch any last minute notes.

Last Month

In May, Fortify Software provided a private viewing of the film “The New Face of CyberCrime,” by Academy Award-nominated Filmmaker Fredric Golding. This was a good film that generated some discussion afterward. A teaser for the video is avaialble at: http://www.fortify.com/security-resources/ If interested in arranging a full viewing, contact Brian Fox (bfox@fortify.com.)

Fortify's Rob Rachwald then gave a presentation entitled “Integrating Security Into the QA Group”.

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be on 12 June from 6-9pm at the Booz Allen Herndon facility.

We have lined up David Wheeler to talk about the security of Open Source Software. David is very active in the community (see http://www.dwheeler.com/) and I'm very pleased to have him as a speaker for our chapter.

"Protecting your applications from backdoors", Shawn Hank from Veracode. Backdoors and malicious code pose operational risk to software at a level too significant for organizations to ignore. The common practices of outsourcing and using third-party libraries are making modern application development increasingly complex. As a result, it is nearly impossible for an enterprise to identify the pedigree and security level of the software running their business-critical applications and handling their customers' personally identifiable information. Shawn will discuss different attack and detection methods.

Pizza will be provided for a small fee. If you plan on attending, RSVP so I can get you badge processing started.
